Gouache
and the use of Chinese White with transparent watercolor is frowned
on by purists in some American Watercolor Societies, but ever since
John Lynch of London has been teaching through Compton ART, Annette
Compton has used this chalk-based medium to build up and enhance
the surface of her watercolors. "My method becomes more like
the process in my oil painting. The thickness is appealing and the
change of color through repeated application as well as the matte
finish has a unique appeal."
