ANNOUNCING
SPRING CLASSES
2010

More Abstraction
in Watercolor
10 AM to 1 PM Wednesdays, March
17, 2010
$290.00 per person, 8 sessions through March 18, 2010
1 person signed up: George Zimberg
Because
of the popularity of the winter class, more abstract techniques and
the painters that made them famous will be introduced in the continuation
of more abstraction in watercolor. We left off with the urban landscapes
of the 1970's. We'll return to their roots in the thirties and cover
new avenues in the nature of abstraction—moving away from reality
into a new structure. Principles of composition will be explored each
week with experiemental techniques including spatter, salt, alcohol,
imprinting, and pouring. Reductive techniques and the building up of
glazes will expand any artist’s vocabulary. Abstraction can range
from the most calculated of compositions to the most expressive of possibilities.
This is the class to explore the entire range. A
materials list will be online when at least three students have enrolled.
•
The Lost and Found Edges of Watercolor
10 AM to 1 PM, starting Thursdays, March 18, 2010 OR
6 PM to 9PM, on Thursday Evenings
starting the same date
for those with some watercolor experience
$290.00 per person, 8 sessions through May 6, 2010
Morning session: 1 person signed up; Jen Dembinski
Evening session: 1 person signed up: Kathy Kaminski
Whether you are working on a portrait, a landscape
or an abstract painting, watercolor has a unique ability to create a
variety of edges. Both clean lines and soft edges will be explored from
a technical perspective. What about how those change a composition?
How does a confident handling of a brush loaded with color change from
the soft, filmy quality of a lost edge on wet paper. Each week, technical
exercises will be covered before we begin a painting. Color principles
will be covered to increase the painter's confidence with a brush. A
variety of papers will be used to explore how paint handles on various
surfaces. A materials list will be online when at least three
students have enrolled.
•
Semi-Private
Oil Painting Techniques
10 AM to 1PM, starting Friday, March 19, 2010
$350.00 per person, 8 sessions through May 7, 2010
Be
the first to sign up! ONLY TWO STUDENTS
Oil painting
is a medium rich in possibilities. Techniques of layering paint in glazes
versus a direct approach with a loaded brush and everything in between
makes this the perfect class for someone needing clarification and direction
in the techiniques of painting. Through simple still-lifes and the possibility
of a model, each week new approaches to this classic medium will be
explored. Since this is a semi-private class, it will only go if two
people sign up. Excellent preparation for a summer experience, painting
on location. A materials list will be online when students have
signed up.
