Anyone can learn to draw or paint—but often your expectations—good or bad—are what hold you back from trying. Annette Compton teaches technique in drawing and watercolor, helping you explore the range of possibilities in your visual art.

Maybe you would prefer travelling to a new location for a concentrated week or so of painting?

FALL CLASSES 2008
Its been a while since we've had classes. A few things have changed—now there are only six people to a class. For the first time in four years, we're offering beginning watercolor again this year, both an evening and daytime session for people new to the medium.

.Introducing Watercolor Techniques
10 AM to 1 PM starting Monday, September 22, 2009 OR
6-9 PM, starting Thursday, September 25, 2008
$280.00 per person, 8 sessions through the week
of November 11, 2008

This class will direct you to luminous painting and expressive work from your first watercolor experience on. Exploring the unique reactions of pure pigment transparent watercolor with guidance on brushes and paper help a beginner gain confidence quickly in this medium. Since the class emphasizes use of paint, some facility with drawing is helpful but not necessary to enjoy this eight-week introduction to painting. Basic drawing skills will be touched on as well to help understand the medium of watercolor. Perfect also for watercolorists who have studied elsewhere to supplement their knowledge of how pigments work together. Bring a notebook. No need to bring paints, unless you already have some. Discounted materials may be purchased as a group after reviewing materials in the first class. Suggested text: Drawing from the Mind, Painting from the Heart by Annette Compton, published by Watson-Guptill. A materials list will be available online or will be sent via email when you sign up.

Watercolor for People Who Don't Have the Time
10:00 AM to 1 PM, starting Wednesday, September 24, 2008
$280.00 per person, 8 sessions through November 12, 2008

Everyone who took this class has loved it because it gives you time to paint and the stimulation to do more, if you want. Each week, you will focus on a watercolor approach or technique. Whether realism or abstraction is explored, we'll have a different way of looking at your work each week. Everything from new techniques to innovative philosophies will help encourage you to keep your work developing even when you feel your time is limited. Work for the week will be a spontaneous outgrowth of the class discussion if you wish, but homework will not be offered. The objective here is to have three hours each week to paint with instruction and supportive people constrained by the same issues. A materials list will be available online or will be sent via email when you sign up.

Approach to Landscape: Autumn Watercolors NEW!
10:00 to 1 PM, starting Friday, September 26, 2008
$280.00 per person, 8 sessions through November 14, 2008

Each week, the focus will be on the landscape in watercolor, yet we will approach it differently each time. We will work from sketches on the trails around Woodstock if weather permits and on color theory in the studio. A demonstration and specific color mixtures will be examined each week as we move from the greens and golds of late September to the violets and rose tones of the November skies. Different watercolor techiniques will be explored so that you can explore a variety of ways to record nature's changes. A critique will offer a chance to look at changes in the season and our work—homework is always optional. A materials list will be available online or will be sent via email when you sign up.

WINTER CLASSES 2009

Things are always changing but if the students are ready–a teacher will appear! If all goes well with the fall classes, we'll have a new list of classes for the winter up in November. Stay tuned and thank you for you support of the studio. Its a pleasure to share your creative process!
