• Watercolor on the Trails of Woodstock

9 AM to 4 PM Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 2009
$175.00 per person

With 30 miles of continuous walking trails outside the studio door, we’ll take advantage of what we hope will be glorious fall weather. We’ll start in the studio for warm-up exercises in drawing and paint. We’ll take our lunch and spend the afternoon on the trails on Mt. Peg. Sunday, we’ll convene at the trailhead to the National Park and wind up at the Visitor’s Center for a summary of our time together. Pen, pencils, aquarelle pencils are all welcome. A materials list will be online when at least three students have signed up.

• Glazing in Watercolor
9 AM to 4 PM Saturday & Sunday, November 7-8, 2009
$175.00 per person, limited to six participants
3 Students have signed up as of September 16, 2009

You will learn the properties of basic transparent watercolors along with the joy of building up a painting in delicate layers of color. Learn the difference between mixed colors and how layers work. Working from photo reference, we will see how value plays an integral part in building up the form and how knowledge of paints and their properties can help you make wise color choices. Drying time will be spent in drawing exercises, tea breaks and art historical discussion. A perfect workshop to jump start your painting.

• Making Your Own Holiday Card
9 AM to 4 PM Saturday & Sunday, December 5-6, 2009
$175.00 per person, limited to six participants

All you need to bring to this workshop is an idea and some reference for the image you want to have on your holiday card. You will leave with a CD that is “press-ready” for you take it to a local printer or get information for high-quality, cost-effective printers online. The first day, you will paint your image and work out your design. Sunday, you will scan the work and learn the basics of print production. You’ll learn how to paint for reproduction, scan your own image and develop the actual design of the card. Learn about the optimal sizes for cost-effective reproduction, quantities and how to make other cards from
your own artwork. A familiarity with a computer is all you need and no prior graphic design knowledge is needed.

To sign up for any of these workshops, contact the studio by email at acc@comptonart.net or call (802) 457-2020.

Summers Past with JOHN LYNCH

John approaches watercolor differently: in thick, joyous blobs of color from gouache and watercolor.
We have been fortunate to have him visit us for five summers.
You can now see his work in London where he lives full time.
Here are pictures from the five day workshops he taught for Compton ART from 2001 through 2007—

We spoke with John in January of 2009 and he sends his best to all his friends in the United States.
He's painting up a storm and is currenlty still represented by Pegasus Gallery in the United States as well as Time Art in London.
If you want to contact him, it is best to write to him at:

John Lynch
30 Broadfield Lane
London, England NW1 9YJ

If you want to keep in touch with John Lynch, the best way is to phone him as he currently does not have email. However, his website is in the works, so stay tuned.
