Louise Franco

Louise at ShowLouise Franco was born in Toronto, Canada, raised part of her life in Miami, Florida, and eventually moved to San Francisco where she met her husband, and they later lived in Aix-en-Provence, France, for several years before moving to Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom in 1977.

Louise studied music and played violin as a teenager and therefore never had the opportunity to take art classes in school. It was not until she hit “mid-life” that she took an interest in painting and decided to enroll in a watercolor class. That was in 1995 and since then she has been taking classes and workshops from local artists and nationally-known watercolorists. In 1997, she began exhibiting her works and, over the years, has had her paintings displayed in both solo and group exhibits, as well as several juried shows.

Although, the process of painting in watercolor can be frustrating, Louise finds encouragement from each session, converting the potential negative into a positive experience of gaining knowledge and technique. For her, the visual pleasure of watching pigment meet water is exciting and inspiring. Each time brush meets paper and pigment meets water, the artist has the opportunity to react in her own way to the medium. It is this flexibility which has allowed Louise to experiment, grow and, especially, to find enjoyment in her watercolors.
